Elevation profile

A classic mountain hike straight from town. The yellow trail leads through Moszczenica Wyżna and the forests of the Radziejowa Range up to the PTTK shelter on Przehyba.

The trail begins in Stary Sącz, near the railway station, and soon passes the old cemetery by St Roch’s church and war cemetery plot no. 348. Then the town is left behind. The first stretch, to Moszczenica Wyżna, is gentle and leads through villages and fields, with views of the slopes of Makowica and the Jaworzynka valley.

From Moszczenica Wyżna the real climb begins. Up long forested slopes the trail ascends via Zgrzypy and Mała Przehyba towards the ridge of the Radziejowa Range. Here strong legs and patience will be needed. The forest opens up only rarely, but when it does you can see the Sącz Basin, the Beskid Wyspowy and, on a clear day, the Pieniny and the Tatras too.

At the end awaits the PTTK shelter on Przehyba, at 1175 m above sea level. It first welcomed hikers in 1937, and after a fire in 1991 it was rebuilt and reopened in 2003. You can rest here before the way back, or even stay the night.

Along the way

  1. The Old Cemetery and St Roch’s Church The hill where those who shaped the town lie at rest
  2. War Cemetery No. 348 A burial plot for soldiers of two world wars
