A section of the great European cycle route which, in the Stary Sącz commune, follows the Poprad valley towards Barcice. The riding is gentle, with the river beside you almost all the way.
EuroVelo 11, known as the East Europe Route, is one of the international routes of the EuroVelo network. According to the commune, it runs through the Stary Sącz commune along the Poprad towards Barcice, and links with Nowy Sącz by a cycle footbridge over the Poprad. The section shown on the map begins at the northern edge of the commune, on the Nowy Sącz side, and leads south up the valley.
Here the Poprad keeps the cyclist company like an old friend. At times it flows wide and lazy, at others it rushes over the stones, while above the valley the wooded slopes of the Beskid Sądecki slowly rise. The height difference is small and spread over a dozen or so kilometres, so the ride is relaxed and well suited to a family outing.
The route links easily with others. From around the Stawy and the Bobrowisko it is not far to VeloDunajec, and from Barcice you can ride up to the Ślimak in Wola Krogulecka. Those with more energy can carry on along the Poprad valley, beyond the boundaries of the commune.
